A lot of work

After many trips to check out cabinets, flooring (vacillating between wood and tile), bathroom tiles, granite for the counter tops and stone to wrap the double-sided fireplace, we stumbled upon and decided to use a contractor who gets high marks with the BBB and Register of Contractors. We've been thrilled to work with his designer, who has helped tremendously in coordinating the designs and colors of the material we are going to use.

We signed the contracts and are continuing to pack up the house like we've slowly been doing these past weeks in preparation for the remodel. Karen has been inventorying and photographing everything as things get packed and we are about to start the demolition.

Demolition. That's not as bad as it sounds. Basically, we are going to pull out the carpet, remove the floor tiles and remove the cabinets. The latter will be recycled in another project.

Bill is rather liking the minimalist look around the house right now and wouldn't mind that look once everything is done. It would mean, of course, keeping a lot of stuff in storage or getting rid of a lot of stuff or keeping it in storage. Karen is not too thrilled with either of those choices.

This whole project has been a lot of work so far, and it doesn't look like things are going to slow down for a while!
